It’s important to first understand that there are two types of diabetes. One, type 1, is caused by an autoimmune disorder which destroys beta cells in the pancreas. Type 2 is the result of insulin resistance where the body isn’t making enough or has stopped responding to insulin due to cell damage or metabolic syndrome. So, yes – black plums are good for diabetics!

Plums are high in fiber, full of antioxidants called polyphenols, and chock-full of potassium thanks to their plantain cousins (or rather the other way around). They’re also low in sugar, but you should check with your doctor just in case…
