Can Keyboards Be Recycled?

The recycling process for most electronics is straightforward. First, the product must be taken apart in order to extract materials of lower value or which cannot be separated by other means. The pieces are sorted according to a material type and graded according to their condition – battered units are salvaged for parts if they can still be used, while broken ones are scrapped trivially when they will not function in second-hand goods. For metal products, only the non-toxic residues need to be treated before being disposed safely of in a landfill or incinerated at high temperatures for energy recovery purposes.
