Do German Shepherds Howl?

My experience with German Shepherds is that they typically don’t howl. Though rare cases do exist; dogs are individuals and not all dogs behave the same way.
There’s actually an easy explanation for this, though it might seem a little strange at first: German Shepherds don’t have lips. A sticky thick liquid known as “tears” helps keep the air from dissipating when a person or animal yawns or smiles, and these tears prevent the air from blowing out during a howl. Because of this lack of tear production in most breeds of dogs, even breeds like German Shepherd Dogs can be blood-hounds one moment and silent the next depending on what they’re doing. In any case…
