Do Jack Russell Terriers Suffer From Inbreeding?

Due to the high numbers of Jack Russell Terriers in existence, it’s much less likely for them to suffer from inbreeding. They are also bred specifically so they don’t suffer from health problems that an unintentional mating might cause.

To begin with, this is actually a pretty difficult question to answer because the term “inbreeding” covers a lot of ground. For instance, breeding two animals closely related would be considered inbreeding, while breeding two different varieties of animals would not qualify as “inbred.” Instead the term “open” should be used for this type of selection process…though even then there can be exceptions depending on how you measure your degrees of kinship…
