If you can’t remember when you bought your last bottle, the color of the bottle cap may indicate whether or not it is still safe to use. Clear caps are normally safe for an indefinite period; solid white (tea) caps typically last between six months and a year; yellow (sunlight sensitive) caps typically last for six weeks to three months; solid green or blue/green (plastic photodegradable) caps typically last up to 12 weeks, but please verify with the manufacturer’s packaging. After that time has elapsed in some cases, fats and oils can begin to break down and contaminate the water inside, so we recommend replacing all water bottles every 15 days.
