Yes, water bottles can lower your testosterone, but the plastic drinking straws are even more problematic.
A rat study found that phthalates made from DEHP and DBP harmed males by reducing testosterone levels and impairing sperm production. In humans, consuming a diet of apple juice over a 12-week period increased serum concentrations of many phthalate metabolites–especially among those who were overweight or obese–significantly higher than average levels for adults. This supports the idea that drinking something from a drinking straw exposes us to more phthalates than if we do not use a drinking straw with liquids such as water or juice which have been previously identified as sources of exposure to these chemicals.
