Every year, computer prices decrease as new systems become available with more features at a lower price, but the rate of price reduction has slowed since 2010 as CPU and graphics processors continued to scale to higher clock rates and as system designers were forced to spend time tweaking each separate variable in order for computers to run efficiently without lag. Laptops began incorporating GPUs in 2006 which led them to become comparable or superior to desktop PCs by 2010, and this lead to an increased reliance on laptops and less interest in purchasing desktops. Tablets became popular starting around 2009 — most notably, iPads started being seen after April of 2011 after Steve Jobs’ death — so tablets have brought about some external factors that led towards decreased demand for traditional PCs.
