The American Pit Bull Terrier is a purebred dog, part of the Terrier Group. The first American Pit Bull Terriers were bred in England and exported to America via Ireland because these Englishmen believed that bull-baiting was “inhumane”. These new dogs were initially called by several names including Bulldog terriers or Old Country Bulldogs. Then breeder Colby Kennel & owner Sandy Eaton began developing what became today’s pedigree Pitbulls which resemble more closely the original fighting dog than do some other breeds.
