The story of Oscar Grant took place on New Year’s Eve, 2008 at the Fruitvale Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station. This BART station is located in East Oakland and it serves as a transfer point for multitudes of people who use public transportation.
Fruitvale Station is an independent film directed by Ryan Coogler. The studio behind the production, Forest Green Productions, was founded by Coogler and his cousin Shawn Greene. The film stars Michael B. Jordan as Oscar Grant – a 23-year old father of one son – and follows him up until the night that he was shot to death at BART Fruitville Station by then-Officer Johannes Mehserle on January 1st 2009.
