The blackberry has many origins, but is most commonly thought to originate from North America.
Native Americans may have also contributed this fruit into two of the most famous wars in the history of North America–the Civil War and Revolutionary War! Blackberries were sought after by both sides for their inevitable hunger-quenching powers. This resourceful little berry can withstand long days in harsh conditions and hold all its natural sugars without bursting like strawberries, they also store well in a cool place for later consumption when fresh berries are unavailable. For soldiers on the move it’ll be hard to find something better than these tasty morsels!
Remember that they’re not just useful for camp needs….
