John von Neumann, born in Hungary and attributed with being among the most influential people in modern science, was a mathematician. In 1951 he published The Computer and the Brain. He is known for inventing a way to do logical operations by using a series of electronic impulses, which made it possible for computers to understand natural languages and perform calculations faster than humans could.
